Beth Allen
Undergraduate Trainee at Trouw Nutrition GB
Originally from a farming family in Rutland, I am currently completing my placement (third) year at Harper Adams University studying BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Animal Science. Being a part of an extensive farming family and living on a poultry and arable farm growing up made me hope for a career within the livestock industry. That’s why I could not miss the opportunity of a placement at TNGB – it’s a great opportunity to experience and learn about the industry before diving straight into it!
What have you done during your placement and how has it benefitted you?
During my time here I have had the opportunity to work in several different departments allowing me to gain valuable insight into how a B2B nutrition company works and how each department plays an integral role within the business. Being exposed to all aspects of the business has allowed me to incorporate knowledge I have learnt from different departments elsewhere in the business and lend a hand if required! In addition to this, the opportunity to work within different teams, with so many different people has further developed crucial skills including communication and teamwork.
As I have mainly been based within the Technical department, working with both the monogastric and ruminant teams, my technical knowledge and application has improved significantly through attending customer meetings, webinars and getting out on farm. All of which will provide valuable support through my final year of studies at HAU and hopefully my future career within the industry!
What do you do in your spare time?
Outside of work, I love getting out and about on the farm, especially with my dog, and helping out where I can! I’m a keen member of the Young Farmers Club here in Ashbourne, and my local club at home in Rutland, and enjoy socialising with friends. Also, when I have the opportunity, I enjoy travelling, especially to go skiing!
